Who are Mommy Bloggers?

I am researching mommy blogs and would be SO grateful if you would help me by commenting and answering these questions! (If you would rather, you can email me at carie.lambert@ttu.edu and submit your answers there.)

1. What is the address of your mommy blog?
2. How long have you been blogging?
3. How often do you blog?
4. Why did you begin to blog?
5. What do you blog about?
6. How many mommy blogs do you read on a weekly basis?
7. If you advertise on your mommy blog, what do you advertise (products, services, organizations—please be specific)?
8. If you have a blog other than your mommy blog, what is the subject of that blog?

Thank you for your time! I will visit your blog soon and appreciate your helping me research!

Also, (I'm adding this) How do you feel about the term MommyBlog? And did you have issues with my posting on your comment page? (I struggled with that, but I wanted to be genuine and transparent....)

I loved visiting your blogs and hope to visit again soon. So many of you have great ideas about how to enjoy life and family! :-) Thank you for sharing that with me!

1. What is the address of your mommy blog? http://catholicchristianhomeschooling.blogspot.com/

2. How long have you been blogging? Since last summer (I also have a private family blog that is older then the one I listed)

3. How often do you blog? Average is about once a day

4. Why did you begin to blog? The private one was started as a way to communicate with my sister. She spent the last 14 months in Afghanistan and had to leave her 6 month old behind. So we started a private family blog to share videos and pictures of her son with her while she was in Afghanistan. From there I decided to do a public one.

5. What do you blog about? My kids and homeschooling them

6. How many mommy blogs do you read on a weekly basis? To many to list. Last time I looked at the actually numbers it was over 300. I use Google Reader!!!

8. If you have a blog other than your mommy blog, what is the subject of that blog? My second is just a site to hold MEME, mainly Simple Daybook, my 3rd blog is other random thoughts I may have that doesn't fit in with homeschooling.

Hey Carie, thanks for your interest in my blog. :)
To answer your questions, first, i really dislike the term "mommy blog". Think about it, Car bloggers blog about cars, tech bloggers about technology, but i don't blog about mommys! Anyway, on to the questions!
1. What is the address of your mommy blog?
http://www.herewearetogether.com
2. How long have you been blogging?
About 1.5 years, I think.
3. How often do you blog?
two to three times a week.
4. Why did you begin to blog?
Because I moved to a different country & wanted to give my family abroad the opportunity to see what we do every day.
5. What do you blog about?
Kids craft activities, knitting, fabric, my little ones...
6. How many mommy blogs do you read on a weekly basis?
oh about three or four i'd say, i don't spend a lot of time on the computer.
7. If you advertise on your mommy blog, what do you advertise (products, services, organizations—please be specific)?
I don't. :)
8. If you have a blog other than your mommy blog, what is the subject of that blog?
No, just the one :)

Thank you, this was fun!
Good luck!!

Thanks for your post on my blog. :) Here's the answers to your questions:

1. What is the address of your mommy blog?
I have two I guess, although they were started for different reasons:
http://motherhoodispoop.blogspot.com/
http://theguthriekids.blogspot.com/

2. How long have you been blogging?
for almost a year

3. How often do you blog?
I used to blog every day on my motherhoodispoop blog, and maybe once a week on the other one.

4. Why did you begin to blog?
one blog was just a way to share photos and stories about my kids with our family members who are far away. It's easier than sending emails with tons of attachments or using a Picasa Album. I think in a way it helps me talk about other things to people too. My kids are always forefront in my mind, but not everyone cares about my kids, at least not all the time. It's easier to say, hey check out my blog about this funny thing that so-and-so did, and then we can move on and talk about other non-child related things.
The other one was a way of letting off steam at the end of the day I guess. I knew that other moms sometimes felt buried in diapers and poop stories, so I thought I'd share and if other moms could relate, maybe they would feel like they weren't alone at the end of a crappy day. Having a child with Hirschsprung's Disease was also a motivator. It's a rare disease and it's hard to find support communities and information, so this is my little contribution. Not to mention that all my kids have poop issues of one kind or another, so maybe i'm a self-proclaimed expert? :D

5. What do you blog about?
my kids, diapers/poop related stories, Hirschsprung's Disease.

6. How many mommy blogs do you read on a weekly basis?
~15, plus one "daddy blog".

7. If you advertise on your mommy blog, what do you advertise (products, services, organizations—please be specific)?
I do not advertise on my blogs.

8. If you have a blog other than your mommy blog, what is the subject of that blog?
I think both of mine would be considered "mommy blogs".

It's funny to think about my blog as a "MommyBlog", but I am a Mom and I blog. So I guess that qualifies me?

1. What is the address of your mommy blog?
http://3clinebarger.blogspot.com

2. How long have you been blogging?
Since September 12, 2007 -- almost 2 years!

3. How often do you blog?
Typically every 2-3 days

4. Why did you begin to blog?
Because my dogs do funny things that I like to talk about, and because sometimes I'll have random thoughts about life and just want to jot them down.

5. What do you blog about?
My perception of things around me, things in our house, Cella, and the dogs. Pretty much life in general. What ever silly things pop into this noodle of mine.

6. How many mommy blogs do you read on a weekly basis?
20 - 25

7. If you have a blog other than your mommy blog, what is the subject of that blog?
http://jobsindallas.blogspot.com -- work related blog with the jobs we are trying to fill.

1. What is the address of your mommy blog?

2. How long have you been blogging?
about 2 years.

3. How often do you blog?
sometimes everyday, sometimes not. it depends on my day. I am a mom of 5 1/2 kids. 4 boys one girl and pregnant with another boy.

4. Why did you begin to blog?
I had just had my 5 baby and first girl. I wanted my family to see pictures of the "princess"since we live 4 hours away from family.

5. What do you blog about? I have 2 blogs now. a private one for the kids and a public one just for me and my stuff.

6. How many mommy blogs do you read on a weekly basis? I have a list on my blog. I don't read them all, but I do check a few almost everyday. Every day I blog, I check a few.

7. If you advertise on your mommy blog, what do you advertise (products, services, organizations—please be specific)? Mostly products I have used. Like Mr. Clean with Febreeze. Smells so good!

8. If you have a blog other than your mommy blog, what is the subject of that blog?
Oh, just my kids, I try and post a picture a day, like a family scrapbook/journal. I plan to print it up into a book someday.

2. How long have you been blogging?
since January 2009
3. How often do you blog?
average is once a day, sometimes more sometimes less
4. Why did you begin to blog?
honestly I started blogging because my friend Emily (http://5powellsinatlanta.blogspot.com) dared me to. you should check out her blog too
5. What do you blog about?
whatever is on my mind. I blog about my kids alot because they are a huge part of my life but they are not the reason I blog. I blog for me, it's a creative outlet, it's a place to connect with others. Since I am on the subject, I dislike the term mommyblog. I am more than just a mommy and my blog is about more than that too.
6. How many mommy blogs do you read on a weekly basis?
I follow about 25 blogs. they are not all "mommy blogs"
7. If you advertise on your mommy blog, what do you advertise (products, services, organizations—please be specific)?
I don't officially advertise. Occasionally I will review products I like and do giveaways. Mostly those products relate to my kids in some way.
8. If you have a blog other than your mommy blog, what is the subject of that blog?
only one blog for right now, but my friend Emily and I have condsidered doing a joint blog about more adult topics rather than a family blog.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I appreciate the interest. You are welcome back anytime! :)

Hey there!! Let's see...

1. http://thetexasdarlings.blogspot.com

2. I have been blogging for about a year and 1/2. But really regularly the last 6 months.

3. I blog at least every other day.

4. I began blogging to keep my in-laws and family up-to-date with what we were doing as a family. But it quickly transformed into a great way to write about anything that was on my mind.

5. Mainly, I blog about my kids. I like to post pictures of fun things that have happened in our lives, uniques things we are doing, and funny stories that happen around our house. I also blog a few memes, like Friend Makin' Monday, and tag games (see recent posts). Lastly, I will blog about stuff in Austin, my reading challenge and how God has changed my life in the past 6 months.

6. I probably read, keep up with regularly, and comment on about 20 blogs. I find myself visiting other blogs and adding one or 2 more a week.

I also wanted to make the comment that I have felt a real sense of community within this network of blogs. There are probably 15-20 of us "mommies" that keep up with each other regularly by the blogs. We know what is going on in each other's lives and lift each other up in prayer. I personally have received emails, cards, and gifts in the mail form these ladies. Ladies I have never met in real life. I have felt encouraged and cared for by these bloggy friends. Are we cheating ourselves by making friends through the internet that we very likely will never meet in person? No, I don't think so. I love having these ladies as friends. I love getting to know what they are doing and when they need prayer. I really enjoy my time spent blogging.

Thanks for asking!! Let me know if you have any more questions. I would love to help out.

BTW, Happy Birthday!! I hear there is a fun party to celebrate tomorrow!!!!

3. As often as possible! I blogged weekly for some time and almost daily when possible, but since Rai's arrival, my posts are less frequent.
4. On the personal blog, I wanted to communicate information regarding our adoption (i.e. the process, updates, etc.) to our family and friends rather than sending long emails. Now, I blog to post pictures and videos as well as short updates. On the academic blog, I began posting at the request of our dean to update students and faculty on my fieldwork. Unfortunately, I have not been able to keep up with this. (The act of blogging takes away time from writing my conference paper and finishing much needed video editing.)
5. Personal blog: My son; Academic blog: Fieldwork updates
6. Before our adoption: 10-12; After our adoption: 1-2
7. Only a family members embroidery business since so many people asked who made our Korean shirts
8. Academic: Fieldwork on summer festivals of Asahikawa, Japan (July-August 2008)

How do you feel about the term MommyBlog?
I have no problem with the term. Although my original hope was to have a family blog in which both Aaron and I posted, I am the only one who posts thus far.

And did you have issues with my posting on your comment page? Comment away...

2 blogs: miaiscominghome.blogspot.com AND mymotherlandkorea.blogspot.com

I started blogging when we adotoped our daughter from Korea. Approx. 1.5 yrs ago.

On miaiscominghome.blogspot.com, I haven't updated in several months.

On my current blog, mymotherlandkorea.blogspot.com, I am trying to blog at least 3-5 times/wk.

I started to blog in lieu of sending blanket emails when we were adopting in process of our daughter.

I am blogging about being an adoptee and now and adoptive parent. In addition, I am writing about my experiences in Korea that lead us to bringing our daughter home.

I read about 1-2 mommy blogs on a weekly basis.

I do not advertise.

Mymotherlandkorea.blogspot.com is about several things including being a mother.

2. How long have you been blogging?
several months

3. How often do you blog?
almost daily

4. Why did you begin to blog?
I love writing, and I wanted to connect with other moms so we can know we are not alone in our little struggles. I think you have to find humor in the trials.

5. What do you blog about?
Silly and trying things that my kiddos do.

6. How many mommy blogs do you read on a weekly basis?
A handful.

7. If you advertise on your mommy blog, what do you advertise (products, services, organizations—please be specific)?
I do not advertise.

8. If you have a blog other than your mommy blog, what is the subject of that blog?
I have a stay-at-home mom Examiner page, but that is not exactly a blog.

I am not at all offended by the term "mommy blog." Sometimes I am not sure that I fall into the category because my blog is more for entertainment and companionship than a scrapbook-style display of all of life's accomplishments.

1) www.justsayin-evansmom.blogspot.com

2) I started blogging about a month ago (May 2009). A friend had a blog and she "sucked me in" as she says.

3)I blog 5 to 6 times a month.

4)I wanted to do something to feed my creative side. I work in the insurance industry and that isn't creative at all.

5)My son and life in small town Maine. I also do a weekly Thursday post called "Thankful Thursday" where I focus on the things I am thankful for and participate in a weekly Friday post called "Friday Fragments" where we post random thoughts.

6) I read a couple - and one that could be described as a Daddy blog!

7) I do not advertise.

8) I only have one blog.

While the term "mommy blog" doesn't offend me per se, I do find that it is limiting. Many of the people who blog are mothers and they talk about their child or children, most of them are much much more than that.

Carolyn G said...

First of all, I hate the term "mommy blog". No real reason.

I blog because I love myself. It's a very self-indulgent passtime. I think my family is great. I love seeing pictures of myself on the computer. I think my kid is amazing. I want the world to look at my blog and think how cute and happy and cool we are. I want people to love us. Friends, family, strangers. I try to only post really good pictures of me & my husband. Sometimes, I let a bad one slip because I just have to share it. Personal blogs are all about how we think are families are the best, and we are obsessed with our adorable children and want everyone else to see how wonderful they are, too. I love blogging. I do it 1-2 times a week. I love reading other people's blogs, be it a stranger or a long-lost friend who is now married and a mother. I love seeing how people have changed, and how cute (or not cute) their kids are. I like to read about people. Check out my blog sometime if you'd like! Thanks :)

I have been bloggin for about three years. It started with my adoption of our son. I just wanted a journal for him to show how we loved him from the moment we heard about him.
Also I have family all over the place and this gave them updates.
My new blog is just a continuation of the whole family. Since I am getting Alzheimers (LOL), I decided this would be a good way to get my thoughts and stories down for my kiddos.
I probably read 10 other blogs. Met lots of "online" friends, attended a blog baby shower, and have had seasonal gift swaps.
I do not advertize.
I do have another blog..
I am in a birthday club and I just add pictures and stories of what us girlies are up to. it is private.

I hope I'm not too late for this!! I didn't have access to a computer while we were in Florida.

Ok, here goes...

1. www.keridoinglife.blogspot.com

2. I have been blogging almost a year.

3. I would say, on average, I blog about 6-8 times a month.

4. I originally started blogging because my family is all over the place, as you know, and it was the easiest way for me to keep them updated. Honestly? I think my parents and Lisa are the only family members that actually read it.

5. I do blog about my life, but every once in awhile it is more of a Deep Thought kind of entry. I have never considered myself a writer nor have I ever had a real need to write, but I have been amazed at what kind of an outlet the blog has been for me. It is cathartic in a strange way.

6. I read less than 7 other "mommy blogs" on a regular basis. I get bored with a lot of them and am working hard to not devote crazy amounts of time in blog world. I also found that there was more of a tendency towards discontentment in my life if I read too many blogs. Obviously a glaring deficiency on my part.......yikes!

7. I do not advertise.

8. I do not have any other blogs.

The term "mommy blog"....hmmm. Honestly? Not my favorite and I wouldn't probably label my blog that way even though I would fall into that category. I guess I see my blog as exactly that, my blog, and my life is about more than just my kids and my role as a mom even though it is a huge part of my life. I'm certainly not offended by the term, at all. I guess I just never thought about it before.

Oh, and no, I had no problem at all with you commenting!! Many times I've received comments that didn't necessarily pertain to the posting and I just don't publish that comment. I'm just sorry I didn't get to respond sooner!!

I hope you had a Happy Birthday!!!

mamawork said...

1. What is the address of your mommy blog?

www.mamawork.wordpress.com

2. How long have you been blogging?

Some months

3. How often do you blog?

A couple of times a month or more often if I have the time

4. Why did you begin to blog?

It is an easier way for me to keep track of the events and issues in my journey into motherhood. I also like to put my thoughts 'out there'. I had no idea what the blogasphere was about and wanted to try it out, and got hooked.

5. What do you blog about?

Pretty much anything - my life. My experience of motherhood is so profoundly connected to so many aspects of life, that pretty much any topic falls under the umbrella of motherhood for me. I am trying to sort through just what it means to me to be a mother. I am working intuitively to find my mothering path and I enjoy having it on record. I initially wanted to share helpful information, but have strayed somewhat from that intention. It has become a collection of writings of a personal nature.

6. How many mommy blogs do you read on a weekly basis?

Not many - maybe 4-5 regular ones and then sporadically other ones that meet a specific interest.

7. If you advertise on your mommy blog, what do you advertise (products, services, organizations—please be specific)?

Nope. I guess I might share personal experience about services, products and organisations.

8. If you have a blog other than your mommy blog, what is the subject of that blog?

No other blog just yet.

Not sure why, but mommy blogs as a term does not sit well with me. It sounds a bit cutesy and I guess I am far too passionate about motherhood and mothering to be grouped under a cutesy name..... Mommy seems to be the diminutive for mothering/motherhood/mother - all powerful words for me.
